La Garita Stock Trail

Summitville Trail #380, also known as Park Creek Road, is an 18-mile route through the Rio Grande National Forest, offering a scenic and accessible OHV experience. The trail leads to the historic Summitville mining town, established in 1873, which now serves as an interpretive site with remnants of its gold mining past . The route continues through Elwood Pass, providing panoramic views of the San Juan Mountains, and connects to other trails like Fox Mountain Road. With elevations reaching up to 11,954 feet, it’s essential to be prepared for changing weather conditions and to stay on designated roads.

The Bachelor Loop is a 17-mile self-guided driving tour through the historic silver mining district above Creede, Colorado. Traversing rugged canyon walls and high alpine terrain, the route passes 1890s-era mines, ghost towns, and interpretive stops that bring the region’s mining history to life. The loop is accessible to most vehicles, though some sections are steep and narrow, and a $3 guidebook is available at the Creede Visitor Center to enhance the experience.
Natural Arch
The Natural Arch OHV Trail, also known as the La Garita Natural Arch Trail, offers off-highway vehicle enthusiasts a scenic 12-mile out-and-back route through the Rio Grande National Forest to a unique geological formation. The trail leads to a 40-foot-tall, 30-foot-wide volcanic arch formed approximately 30 million years ago from cooled magma intrusions. The route traverses high desert terrain with panoramic views of the San Luis Valley and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, with a final short, steep hike over loose rock to reach the arch— a sacred site still used for ceremonies by the Jicarilla Apache and Ute tribes.
